MusicToolKit — Support

Last updated: August 27, 2026

Thank you for using MusicToolKit. If you run into trouble, please check the FAQ below first. If your issue is not resolved, feel free to contact us by email.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. No sound is playing.

Please check that your device is not in silent mode and that the volume is turned up. The metronome and keyboard screens each have their own volume slider. If you use Bluetooth earphones, also check the connection and the selected output device.

Q. The tuner does not respond.

Microphone permission is required on first use. If you declined it, enable MusicToolKit under iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone. Moving the sensitivity slider on the tuner screen to the right (higher sensitivity) also helps the tuner pick up quieter sounds.

Q. Can I type the tempo directly?

Yes. Tap the large tempo number on the metronome screen to open a number pad, type the value, and confirm with "Done". Use the up/down buttons next to the number for fine adjustment, or the slider for coarse changes.

Q. Does it support compound meters like 6/8, or chained time signatures?

Yes. Use the +/− buttons next to the time signature numbers. In compound meters such as 6/8, 9/8, and 12/8, both the subdivisions and the larger conductor beats are displayed in two rows. Tap the "+" button to the right of the time signature to chain meters, e.g. repeating 4/4 + 5/4.

Q. How do I switch temperaments (e.g. just intonation)?

Open "Settings" at the bottom right of the screen to choose from seven temperaments (equal temperament, just intonation, Pythagorean, meantone, Werckmeister III, Kirnberger III, and custom). The selected temperament applies to the tuning fork, tuner, and keyboard.

Q. How do I change the reference pitch (e.g. A4 = 442 Hz)?

You can change it on the tuning fork screen or in Settings. Quick buttons for 415–444 Hz are available, and direct numeric input is also supported. The current reference pitch is always shown as a badge at the top of each screen.

Q. Where are my recordings stored?

All recordings are stored on your device and are never transmitted automatically. You can play, favorite, and delete them from the list on the recorder screen, and export them anywhere you like — including iCloud Drive and Dropbox — via the share button. Recordings also appear in the iOS Files app under a "MusicToolKit" folder, so you can copy or move them directly from there.

Q. How do I remove the ads?

Open Settings and tap "Remove Ads". It is a one-time in-app purchase; after purchasing, banner ads are hidden on all devices signed in with the same Apple ID. To restore the purchase on another device, tap "Restore Purchases" on the same screen. All features remain free to use either way.
